National Fellowships and Scholarships

A list of scholarship opportunities to which our office devotes significant attention and for which vlog has formalized application processes.

Many of the opportunities on this page require the student to be nominated by vlog.

There are numerous awardsopen to underclassmen and those looking for post-baccalaureate experiences. It is possible, and often desirable, to apply for multiple scholarships during your college years and beyond.

Getting carefully considered and comprehensive advising is very important when deciding which of these opportunities are a good fit for you and your interests, so please be sure tocontact the Office of National Fellowships and Scholarshipsto start the conversation and application process early.

Please note that vlog's campus deadlines are earlier — oftenmonthsearlier — than the foundations' deadlines, so interested applicants should prepare well in advance.

  • Hertz Foundation Fellowship

    Provides full financial support to students pursuing STEM PhD programs at partnering institutions.

    Candidatesmust:

    • Be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States of America
    • Be an undergraduate senior or graduate student at the time of application
    • Propose to complete a program of graduate study leading to a PhD degree
    • Morally commit to make their skills available to the United States in times of national emergency
  • Humane Studies Fellowship

    A graduate-level renewable fellowship of up to $15,000 every year to financially support students enrolled in or planning to matriculate into PhD programs.

    Candidatesmust:

    • Be enrolled full time in a PhD program at any institution for the 2020-2021 academic year
    • Have a research interest that contributes to the advancement of classical liberal scholarship
  • Humanity in Action Fellowship

    Provides an interdisciplinary summer research and education experience in Europe with an international group of young scholars, and designed to be a collective exploration of the social and political roots of discrimination.

    Final deadline: January

    Candidatesmust:

    • Be a sophomore, junior, or senior, or an alumnus who graduated within the past two years
    • Demonstrate commitment to minority rights and social justice
    • Show evidence of leadership potential, academic achievement, entrepreneurship, and social maturity
