National Fellowships and Scholarships

Numerous awards are open to underclassmen and those seeking post-baccalaureate experiences. It is possible, and often desirable, to apply for multiple scholarships during your college years and beyond. Many of the opportunities on this page require the student to be nominated by ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø.

Carefully considered, comprehensive advising is important when deciding which of these opportunities is a good fit for you and your interests, so please contact the Office of National Fellowships and Scholarships to start the conversation and application process early.

Deadlines

Please note that ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø's campus deadlines are earlier — often months earlier — than the foundations' deadlines, so interested applicants should prepare well in advance.

  • Marshall Scholarship

    For graduate study in a British college or university for one or two years. Awards include full tuition, living allowance, book grant, thesis grant, research grant, and travel allowance.

    Preliminary deadline: 

    June 1: Check in with Fellowships Director; work on essays begins

    Sept. 25: Internal ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø deadline; initial application submitted

    Candidates must:

    • Be a US citizen
    • Be a current or rising senior or have received the BA after the April two years prior to the year of application
    • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.7
    • Be nominated by ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø. Nomination decisions will be made by our UK/Ireland Committee after review of application materials and campus interviews.

  • National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship

    A competitive fellowship that enables students to pursue a Doctoral degree aligned to the DoD services Broad Agency Announcements (BAAs) in research and development at a U.S. institution.
     
    Candidates must:

    • Be a US citizen or national; dual citizens may apply
    • Be enrolled in their final year of undergraduate studies through the second year of a traditional PhD program
    • Be enrolled in full-time programs leading to graduate degrees in fields specified in the DoD services Broad Agency Announcements (BAAs) research and development discipline
    • Attend an accredited U.S. institution of higher education
    • Attend the DoD National NDSEG Fellows Conference within their award term

  • National Institutes of Health Oxford-Cambridge Scholars Program

    This is an accelerated, individualized doctoral training program for outstanding science students committed to biomedical research careers. It provides full tuition plus living stipend for a collaborative PhD or MD/PhD project in any area of biomedical investigation with two research mentors, one at NIH and one at either Oxford or Cambridge.

    Final deadline: Early December

    Candidates must:

    • Have a strong research record related to the biomedicine
    • Have a record of outstanding academic performance
    • Have a bachelor's degree in hand before the start of this program
    • Be a US citizen or permanent resident
