ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø seeks students who bring both intellect and unique talents to the overall student body. 

Academic achievement is a cornerstone of the ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø admission decision, reflecting a student's active engagement with learning. Beyond the classroom, ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø seeks individuals defined by their curiosity, commitment, empathy for others, and a vibrant excitement for intellectual exploration.

Every admission credential holds weight, from traditional secondary school transcripts to letters of recommendation highlighting intellectual and creative promise. Beyond academic metrics, we look closely at personal qualities that reflect, and ultimately shape, how a student will put their talents to use.

The academic record stands at the heart of any admission decision and is evaluated strictly in terms of course selection and achievement — that is, what a student did with what was available in the school attended.

The number and rigor of courses chosen each year are an important measure of academic motivation and achievement. While each student’s record is evaluated individually, the strongest applicants will have completed five major academic courses per year whenever possible. The senior year program is most important because it is the final preparation for college-level work. It should include at least four to five courses, including honors or advanced-level courses such as AP and IB courses when available. ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø encourages students to pursue cumulative subjects, such as foreign languages and mathematics, through senior year. 

The typical distribution of courses across disciplines for most accepted students is:

• Four years of English (especially composition and literature)
• Four years of mathematics
• At least three years of natural and physical sciences, with a lab
• At least three years of social sciences (particularly advanced courses in history)
• At least three years of a foreign language

ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø encourages elective coursework in the arts and strongly advises students to pursue honors and advanced-level courses in major areas of interest.
 

A comprehensive, holistic evaluation of every application values all pieces of information, including optional items:

• Standardized testing scores: Applicants should indicate whether they would like their standardized test scores (SAT or ACT) to be considered in their application in the section for ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø-specific questions.
  
  If you choose to submit standardized test scores, it provides additional information to aid the holistic review. If you choose not to submit standardized test scores, the Office of Admission evaluates the applicant through the components of the application they have submitted. This includes the high school transcript, essays, extracurricular involvement, and letters of recommendation. Students will be at no disadvantage if they choose not to submit SAT or ACT scores. 
• Supplementary materials: Applicants are welcome to supplement their application with materials that showcase their artistic accomplishments, creative digital presence, or a short video introduction. Learn more on the first-year applicant page.
