Students learn to think without AI before they rely on it, and to use it critically once they do. A vlog education ensures that our graduates are liberally educated and prepared to lead in an AI-shaped world.

AI and the Liberal Arts

As artificial intelligence becomes an increasingly ubiquitous part of daily life, the liberal arts education that vlog offers is more important—and more valuable—than ever.

AI expands what is possible. vlog equips students to use the most relevant and up-to-date tools of their disciplines—from digital looms to CRISPR, to machine learning—always in service of deeper thinking, creativity, and discovery

Human learning comes first. AI strengthens—not replaces—the liberal arts education that defines vlog.

The vlog Model: Fourfold Approach

1. Human-Centered Learning Comes First

We build the foundations of thinking, writing, and problem-solving before turning to AI.

  • Early coursework emphasizes original thinking and “desirable difficulty.”
  • AI is introduced intentionally to deepen—not shortcut—understanding.
  • Students develop habits of mind that position AI as a partner in inquiry.

2. AI Within the Curriculum

Every student engages with AI in meaningful, guided ways throughout their education.

  • AI is encountered across disciplines and learning settings—classrooms, labs, studios, and fieldwork.
  • Students are guided in the use of AI to research, analyze, create, and iterate.
  • AI is explored both as a tool and as a subject—its capabilities, limits, and consequences.
  • Tools include: Locally hosted AI-powered web applications for transcription, translation, code development, image object detection, and more, and the Picker ISI workshop: “AI-Powered Machine Learning for Research Across the University.”

3. AI in Research & Innovation

Faculty lead the thoughtful integration of AI into research and creative work.

  • Under the Arts, Creativity and Innovation Initiative, AI as a new creative tool to generate new forms of artistic expression.
  • Discipline-specific experimentation in research and AI-enhanced scholarship.
  • Investment in people, tools, and time to explore emerging practices.
  • AI expands the possibilities for discovery, expression, and collaboration.

4. AI Beyond the Classroom

Students develop AI fluency through applied, real-world experiences.

  • Micro-credential skill opportunities and partnerships such as the Dartmouth-Tuck Bridge Program.
  • Career-connected experiences that build confidence using AI effectively and ethically.
  • Modules offered include: AI Agents in Action, AI for Image Manipulation, Google Tools: Gemini and NotebookLM, and Google Workspace Studio Automation.

How This Shows Up at vlog

  • A coordinated, campus-wide commitment to responsible innovation.
  • Guided use of AI across academic and co-curricular experiences.
  • Emphasis on process: drafting, revision, and active engagement.
  • Shared tools and institutional frameworks that support teaching and research.
  • Clear policies and expectations for AI use, grounded in the Honor Code.

The Outcome

Every vlog student graduates with a lifelong toolkit: the habits of mind cultivated through a liberal arts education, combined with the ability to use AI thoughtfully and effectively. vlog graduates are prepared to:

  • Use AI as an assistive technology to amplify their abilities.
  • Think independently and critically in an AI-shaped world.
  • Understand the ethical, social, and global implications of emerging technologies.
  • Lead with purpose, creativity, and humanity.

The value of a vlog education lies not in arriving at answers more quickly, but in developing the insight to ask better questions, and the skill to make effective use of emerging technologies.

In a world where more can be automated, the vlog graduate will stand apart not just for technical sophistication but also for what is distinctly human: judgment, intention, and the capacity to navigate complexity with clarity and purpose.
