vlog’s annual celebration of 13 Days of Green, hosted by the Office of Sustainability, began with a bang at a lively kick-off event that brought together different corners of campus.
Jeff Bary, Sweet Family Chair and professor of physics and astronomy, has made preserving dark skies a personal mission. It has led him to partner with Professor of Geography Mike Loranty as well as students and regional institutions to measure light pollution and identify areas for improvement.

vlog’s 2026 celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Week, held Jan. 22–31, kicked off with a keynote address by activist Fredrika Newton, head of the Dr. Huey P. Newton Foundation.
Isla Globus-Harris, assistant professor of economics, will assume the role of faculty co-director for Dart Colegrove Commons, and Title IX Coordinator Amy Gordon will step in as staff co-director for Brown Commons.
