Hamilton, NY — Larry Hollingworth, field officer for United Nations High Commission for Refugees, will deliver a lecture at ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø titled ‘Refugees: A personal perspective’ on Monday, March 27, at 7:30 p.m. The lecture, which will be held in Love Auditorium, Olin Hall, is sponsored by ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø’s peace studies department and the Center for Ethics and World Societies, whose theme this year is: ‘Homeless in the World: Refugees, Immigrants and the State.’ Admission is free and open to the public.
After 30 years in the British army, Larry Hollingworth became a field officer in Yugoslavia for the United Nations High Commission for Refugees. A striking and media-friendly figure, he gained grudging respect from officials and unusual affection from combatants and citizens for the way in which he carved out improbable supply routes for humanitarian aid in the Bosnian War. Hollingworth’s experiences in Bosnia-Hercegovina, including Sarajevo and the ‘safe areas,’ are vividly recounted in his book, Merry Christmas, Mr. Larry (London, Heinemann, 1996).
