It is recommended that vlog users first enroll in Duo multi-factor authentication using a mobile device. Duo's self-enrollment process makes it easy to register your device and install the mobile app.
If you will not be using a mobile device as your primary authenticator, contact the ITS Service Desk to discuss the best options to suit your needs.
Enrolling With a Smartphone or Tablet
A step-by-step guide to enrollment is available below. Some may find this useful as well.
Step 1.
On a computer, go to and sign in with your vlog username and password. The most recent version of Chrome or Firefox web browser is recommended.
Click Start Setup.
If needed, click Need help? on the left to display ITS Service Desk contact information.
Step 2.
For the best experience, ITS recommends using a mobile device with the Duo Mobile app and Duo Push notifications or Passcodes. To set up your smartphone, select Mobile phone and then click Continue.
You can also enroll using an iPad, some Android tablets, or Touch ID (macOS with Chrome); we recommend these as secondary options, with your mobile device as your primary device.
If you do not want to provide your mobile number: Select “Tablet” for most iOS and Android devices, then skip to Step 5. Install Duo Mobile app, then continue by scanning the barcode to link your account to Duo. Select the type of device and click Continue.
Step 3.
Enter your phone number. Double-check that you entered it correctly, check the box, and click Continue. If you are enrolling a tablet, skip to Step 5. Install Duo Mobile app.
Step 5.
Install the Duo Mobile app on your smartphone or tablet. Note that the icon in the App or Play Store displays the DUO logo with a green background. This is not the Google Duo app (by Google LLC) for making video calls.

After installing the Duo Mobile app on your device, return to the enrollment window and click I have Duo Mobile Installed. If your session has timed out, start again at .
Step 6.
Activating the Duo Mobile app links it to your account so you can use it for authentication. On iPhone, Android, and Windows Phones, open the Duo Mobile app and use the app's built-in barcode scanner to scan the barcode. Follow the platform specific instructions for your device. The Continue button becomes clickable once you scan the barcode or enter your email.
Click the + sign on the top right within the Duo Mobile app.
Do not scan the barcode below, this is only an example. You can also click the link to Email me an activation link instead, as shown below. Then follow the instructions to link your account.
Step 7.
Configure Device Options (Optional)
This step is optional. If you leave the option unchanged you will be able to choose your method of authentication each time. (If you choose to Remember Me you will not see this option.)
If this is the device you'll use most often with Duo, then you may want to enable automatic push requests by changing the When I log in: option to Automatically send this device a Duo Push, then click Save. With this option enabled, Duo automatically sends an authentication request via push notification to the Duo Mobile app on your smartphone.
Confirm/Test Enrollment
Click Continue to Login to proceed to the Duo Prompt. Or, go to colgate.edu/directory and sign in to verify that you are prompted to authenticate using Duo.
After providing your vlog username and password, click Send me a Push to give it a try, and tap Approve on the Duo login request you receive on your mobile device or tablet, similar to what is shown below:
Congratulations! Your device is registered to approve Duo push authentication requests, and your account is now more secure!
