National Fellowships and Scholarships

Numerous awards are open to underclassmen and those seeking post-baccalaureate experiences. It is possible, and often desirable, to apply for multiple scholarships during your college years and beyond. Many of the opportunities on this page require the student to be nominated by ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø.

Carefully considered, comprehensive advising is important when deciding which of these opportunities is a good fit for you and your interests, so please contact the Office of National Fellowships and Scholarships to start the conversation and application process early.

Deadlines

Please note that ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø's campus deadlines are earlier — often months earlier — than the foundations' deadlines, so interested applicants should prepare well in advance.

  • Thomas R. Pickering Graduate Foreign Affairs Fellowship

    Provides up to $42,000 annual funding for graduate study in foreign affairs, plus mentoring and professional development help to prepare Fellows to enter the US Foreign Service.

    Final deadline: September 21, 2024

    Candidates must:

    • Be a US citizen
    • Simultaneously be seeking admission to a 2-year, full-time graduate degree program in public policy, international affairs, public administration, business, economics, political science, sociology, or foreign languages (this excludes law school)
    • Have a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.2 or higher
    • Be available for two summer internships

  • Truman Scholarship

    Provides up to $30,000 in support for graduate or professional studies toward a public service-related degree, plus leadership training and networking.

    Campus deadline: December 1

    Final deadline: early February

    Candidates must:

    • Be a college junior at the time of application
    • Be a US citizen, permanent resident, or US national
    • Demonstrate significant leadership and a commitment to public service
    • Plan to build a career in public service

  • Udall Scholarship

    Provides up to $7,000 towards tuition and other college expenses. Scholars also attend a Udall Orientation in August in Tucson, AZ, and will gain access to a nationwide network of environmental, Native American health, and tribal policy professionals.

    Campus deadline: February 22, 2024

    Final deadline: March 6, 2024

    Candidates must:

    • Be a college sophomore or junior at the time of application
    • Have a college GPA of at least "B"
    • Be a US citizen, permanent resident, or US national
    • Demonstrate commitment to the environment and plan to pursue careers related to the environment; or
    • be Native American or Alaska Native students who demonstrate commitment to careers related to tribal public policy; or Native health care.
